UMA COGEN STUDY

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
With the unpredictable market fluctuations in the cost of fossil fuels, coupled with the broad carbon footprint and non-domestic sourcing, Dirigo was tasked with evaluating the feasibility of a combined heat and power plant to serve the UMA Augusta campus as well as the Civic Center, owned by the City of Augusta. The implementation of a combined heat and power project on the UMA campus was analyzed based on current fuel purchase agreements, historical energy costs and consumption, and capital construction cost data of recent projects. The basis of the analysis was centralizing the current heating system into a centralized heating plant, which would also generate electricity.
